To ensure the safety of its employees at work, TPWODL has developed a specific safety road map which its employees need to adhere to in order to develop a risk free work environment and smooth functioning of its power plants and processes and to ensure the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of its workers.
An overview of TPWODL's occupational health and safety guidelines:
- Safety policy of TPWODL is released and distributed to all section/subdivision/division/circle offices.
- The developed safety road map and annual safety plan of TPWODL is monitored every month.
- Horizontal implementation of safety best practices like Safety Oath & daily Tool box Talk across TPWODL working area.
- Distribution of safety posters and PPE matrix to all section/subdivision/division/circle offices.
- Procurement and distribution of PPE and safety materials to all employees of TPWODL.
- Providing safety familiarization training to TPWODL employees and outsource field staff engaged in O&M activity.
- Initiating theme based safety drives and systems developed for safety induction training to new employees.
- Organising training program every month on working at heights, use of safety gadgets and electrical safety for field staff.
- Implementing contractor safety management for O&M and project activities. Safety bid evaluation conducted before issue of PO to O&M BA.
- Preparation and distribution of safety hand book in local language to all section/subdivision/division/circle offices field staff.
- Creating safety groups of all circle in WhatsApp and sharing information with field staff on a regular basis to develop safety culture.
- Safety governance structured implemented and safety committee meeting in division and circle every month.
- Surakshya portal developed for reporting safety observations online.
- Initiating HVST audit by chiefs.
- Initiating drive for enhancing safety competency of employees through safety module on Gyankosh.
- Organising felt leadership training programme for the senior leadership team
- System created for reporting safety incidents if occurred at site in standard FIR format and daily incident flash report released from corporate safety cell.
- All incidents investigated and lessons learned shared
- Monthly safety MIS & ASP monitored.
- Organising safety promotional activity like national safety week /electrical safety week etc.
- Developing 'Safety Marshal' in each section to monitor safety related activity at ground area. Training the safety marshal to train the field staff and ensure safety oath daily in each section.
- Identification of Nodal safety officers at sub divisional, divisional and circle level defined with roles and responsibility.
- Initiating safety commitment drives of BA and TPWODL field staff to work safely.
- Encouraging public awareness on electrical safety through various initiatives like display of posters at prominent locations, announcements on PA system, safety rallies, publishing on daily newspapers, sharing of jingles and videos on WhatsApp and Twitter, engaging mobile van, fencing of DTR, increasing height of sagging lines etc.
- Recruiting and deploying safety officers at circle level.
- System developed for monitoring manual reporting of unsafe condition and its compliance.
